Emotional Turmoil of a Good Book

Quite awhile ago, I saw a meme (probably this one below) and I really liked it.
Yeah it's like HELLO did you just not experience that with me?!?!

With reading, so many times I feel this way after reading a book. I get so wrapped up in the story. I feel what the characters feel. I mourn or celebrate with them. I go on adventure or get scared with them. I’ve experienced their bravery and their panic. They become friends that I would love to spend more time with.

All of those things are the signs of a great book.

I mention this now, because I just finished a book that got pretty intense for a moment and that meme above really resonates. Looking around, everyone is going about their normal duties. Life is normal.

But, for me, some very important people almost died!

My emotions have gone up and down a massive roller coaster and nobody's the wiser. No one knows that the evil menaces that were hell-bent on bringing about another Holocaust were just thwarted! No one realizes that there were almost terribly weighty costs that were paid. No one even has an inkling that any of it happened!

And this crazy and obnoxious emotional state I am currently in, just shows how gripping a good book can be. I get to experience so much more than I could have ever dreamed, or that I could actually live through. Through reading, sometimes I feel like I’ve lived multiple lifetimes.

I love reading (as you probably guessed) and I love stories. I can’t even begin to express how great it is to fall into a great book. I don’t even mean just those stuffy thought-provoking ones (which, don’t get me wrong, are great on their own merit), but sometimes it’s just amazing to get lost in a “fluffy” book that is purely for “entertainment”. (I’ll just end that thought there because I’m sure you don’t want to hear a long rant at the moment.)

A good book is hard to beat, especially if it makes you feel. For all you readers out there, you know exactly what I’m talking about and for all of those that don’t read, here’s a glimpse of what reading means to those who love to read.
